Genesis of
Mystic Nights of the Wabash

So, how did Mystic Nights of the Wabash come about?  It was precipitated by another unfortunate event: the pandemic.  Being confined to the house those long winter days contributed to the activation of my muse and afforded me time to do something about it.  However, the genesis of this story was sparked, without my knowing it, when as a young boy, by father was driving us down to check of a field my grandfather owned in Hell's Neck, the point in the bottoms where Indiana's two longest rivers, the Wabash and the White, meet.  We crossed the levee and a few hundred yards down the road, we came to the banks of the Wabash and there, in cove of sycamore trees, sat an old, ramshackle, weather-beaten structure perched high on poles to ward off the floods.  It gave me an eerie, ghostly feeling, and as we drove by, I asked my father what it was.  He said it was an old dance hall from the Prohibition Era during the Great Depression.  I asked him why it was there, and he explained that back then Hell's Neck was known as a hideout for fugitives from the law because it was so sparsely populated and so far from law enforcement.  I was intrigued, and every time after that when passing by, I wondered what kind of stories it could tell.  After all these years, that question never eluded me and with pandemic time on my hands, I endeavored to find some answers. Mystic Nights of the Wabash is the product of my search.

I hope you enjoy its secrets and stories.  I did and I wanted to share them.
